#lemongrass is shooting out #newgrowth #newleaves already it had a major hair cut and I divided some of it out to make even more plants. Cus it's a beautiful grass that's #prettyanduseful #edible #culinary #freshisbest #growyourown #gyo #medicinal #prettyandyougetfood #smellsgood when the wind blows sounds nice too.
Yes Jeff @jeatacake they def like my weather lol 1 started with 1 small dying rescue and have made a few others now. Hope to spread them cus they are beautiful green grassy bushes and sound nice in the wind. Also critters like to hide in them so figured a few extras for the critters lol . Probably would need lots of protection in winter for you
Maybe a grow light Jeff @jeatacake fresh lemon grass smells good taste good too def know its possible for the UK to grow them in containers and poly tunnels and or green houses help alot from all I read about growing them there.
#goodmorning my fellow gters.. hope everyone's day/night is going well so far.. top of the steps on my way out to walk duke and this is my dang messy #jungle wish we had privacy fences. Neighbors way to close.. need a yard makeover asap
My #lemongrass has turned #mutant . its making #roots and new#shoots on a stalk that was what i thought to be another flowerstalk so im gonna leave them on for a little while longer then cut off and pot up to have more plants of it. This is so #weirdbutcool #mutation
Yeap Kerry @kez001uk maybe mothernature is trying to compensate for man kind and change things and its making things go a little wonky till she perfects it. Lol thats my story anyways or its fairys.. Maybe both..
I couldnt reach the 2 very tall #lemongrass-flowerstalks so i just used fine #meshbag over the 1 stalk i could reach to try and #seedsave some #lemongrass-seeds off this. Fingerscrossed it works time will only tell.
Oh, so miraculous. I never realized they had a flower. My mother-in-law planted some years ago for me and I ripped it out after one rash from it too many....and now I regret it. I have been trying to get it going again. Do they have a scent?
I couldnt smell anything but was ro scared i would suck up some tuny flowers up my nose Janice @lovestogarden but the plant itself smells nice. Just have to be careful with catching the edges of the leaves they are sharp and leave "rash" like marks.
I hope i can save seeds from it Jeff @jeatacake i look at it daily going in and out my door to walk duke. So hopefully i can catch seeds before they fall off. Im thinking of maybe putting a pair of old stockings(pantyhose lol) tied around the flowers just in case. If i can save them properly ill send ya some. You def know i will. Xoxo fresh is best so as soon as i can(when they are ready) ill get some saved and sent off to you.
Well, Cyndi, I picked some up at the Asian market yesterday and will be rooting it again. I think I did not keep it wet enough. I have been having to garden in long sleeves (much to my chagrin) per the dermatologist, so that should help. My rash is actually scratch-my-skin-off brutal, but I shall try. It is so lovely to cook with. 😍
#lemongrass-flowerstalks #lemongrass #flowerstalks 5 on the way some are just forming still. I cant wait to see the #flowers on these and hopefully save #seeds and hopefully it will make enough to share. Sorry pics are not great.. hard to get pics at night and shaky xo "seedheads should be allowed to dry on the plant; then removed to collect the seeds. Seeds germinate quickly, and young plants require direct sunshine and moderate watering"
8b Ruth @sushiwaitress it can grow up north if you container grow it and protect well during winter like a garage or green house and mulch it or even wrap it .this was in a container a crappy thin one and survived our snow last year with a blanket over it and mulch. I have seen them even in the ground with extra heavy mulching till after last freezer then it was mostly removed .
#treefrog on #lemongrass it actually let me pet its back and chin 😍. I love that #nature trust me to not harm it. This is beside my steps not to far from my #pond just a quick couple of hops away. #closeup #wildlife #frog #beneficialcritter #naturalpestcontrol #ilovenature #mothernaturerocks #greentreefrog #hyla-cinerea
This is a picture I took last year of my #lemongrass after a good hard #rain in the light of the #fullmoon. I am very proud of this pic i took with a cellphone. And it reminds me Im slacking in the pic taking department lmao. I post this cus I wish and am mentally doing a #raindance for all those who are lacking the most precious #resource so many need at this moment. May all who need it get the perfect and right amount of #rain. #brightestblessings
Im so excited a second batch of #lemongrass has loads of #newgrowth i planted this in ground hoping it would make a comeback. I swore i killed it but #whoohoo Its alive thank goodness i love lemon grass
Ok #lemongrass #cuttings with #roots #omg this was so #flippinghard to cut out so please please please make them #thrive for those of you I promised some because I so can not do that again... i got 2 per. If i had some help i prob could have got more but they do have good roots on them. I have them sitting in some water till I #ship them. Xo
It was a total pain by myself heavy too. Would have been easier if i had help its a big plant thats in a container so had to dig out what I could. But 2 of these are yours @veepaisal i will try to get them shipped first week of month. Btw i will have them cleaner looking lol
@cyndi ooh sorry to make you go through so much trouble! I actually won’t be in the US til April 2nd so please do not ship to me yet, no one will be able to help plant them while I’m gone 😂 can you keep them with you first til I come back?
No probs ill put them in a small pot of soil till april Venessa @veepaisal it was hard but no trouble to share the plant love. Worth it if you love it and it does well for you. When ya do get them put in two small pots till get to big for the pot then can either split them in half to make more or up size the pot again then again till its size ya want. Lol
Thanks @kimguy and @columbiariver kim i can save you and laura one set of these as well since i have a package building up in size for you Kim for march shipping just let me know so can put in small pot of soil till then. I pulled a set Laura extra as well incase someone else want some if ya do let me know so can label whos will be. Xoxoxo
They should i hope since i didnt cut them back Vanessa. After last frost ill just cut back all way and they I hope should regrow. They did last few years this way but this year is dif so we will see. I sure do hope so love my lemongrass plants. @veepaisal
When I go to seperate and cut back ill try my best to get ya some but will be a long while before i can do that. So remind me after spring starts and ill try my best for you. Also put on your wish list thing so we both remember lmao @veepaisal
Its hard to get theose to take root has to have some of the base on it to work and most times theirs is clean cut way to high to try. Can get lucky in oriental gro stores sometimes with good pices of them. But i will try my best for you. Its not easy to do. But it needs done next season any how so will try. It does real great in large containers and does spread well @veepaisal
Read up on them kyla and they are useable as well. Cooking drinks like teas and medicincal. Here's a great link about it. Will also put a link for growing and care in another comment.https://www.organicfacts.net/health-benefits/herbs-and-spices/health-benefits-of-lemongrass.html
Ok you don't in our 8b area have to take inside but you do have to cut all the top grass off and mulch heavy so frost won't kill it. Clean dry your leaves and use them. first cut off all bad stuff then cut for home use. http://homeguides.sfgate.com/care-lemon-grass-21745.html
A quote from a link above. "Dividing the plants avoids overcrowding, which reduces productivity, and allows you to propagate the lemongrass. To divide the plant, dig it out or remove it from its container, and split the clump either with your hands or with a spade. The divisions can then be replanted."
I checked email thank you 😘so full sun and water deep once a week thats good to know @cyndi because @terrimclaughlin has one or had one im not sure and its not looking well this is good advice thank you
