I need advice for growing this wisteria. I just planted it last year and it went bananas. If it continues our house will be covered in a few years. There is about 5 ft of deck rail on both sides of the post. #help should i move it to an out building where it can go forever?
If you just planted it last year its probably not too settled so I'd chance moving it. But you might be able to control it if you prefer it where it is. As far as I know you're supposed to cut back to 3 buds twice a year, and maybe you'll get stronger trunks but not so many whippy shoots? Yours is defo more vigorous than mine which has done barely anything in 3 years...
#whippyshoots lol! Thank you! I don't want something that high maintenance against the house. If i can't get to it each year, i can't have it doing this. I'm leaning towards the barn Kim 😁😉💚 @Mikekally
Oh my, what was i thinking? I'll tell you all. I planted a wisteria some 20 years ago. It's still there. It's all of 8 ft tall and one single vine. It was supposed to grow over the old barn/shack. 🤣😂😆😂 It laughs at me every time I talk to it. So I will put this pink one next to it so the stunted one so it can learn how to grow 😘🤪😀🤣😆😂💞💖💕 @ShelleySnyder @dirtgirlworld @Mikekally 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
I have this one Laura, bought it last year and have it going up the side of the house,I was hoping it might flower this time, but I don't think its going to.I was watching a video on you tube about how to prune them to get them to flower,so I will see if it's successful next year 🤞
Yes I'm not very clued up on them Laura, apparently you cut back all the green shoots but not the woody ones also.....it can take up to 7 years! for a wisteria to flower and it's recommend that you always buy one in flower, because once its flowered it will continue to do so,...i haven't got a clue if mine as,I wish I'd known this before i bought it,but it looks healthy and is thriving so i shall have to be patient ,maybe a prune after summer will bring it on 😄🤞
Really good information Della. I'll check out YouTube. I know this one has flowered at the garden center, well I think so anyway. There are far too many little green shoots so I'll be unwinding it and trimming I'm sure. Thank you! @harebell
