We've got freezing rain today. Temps have been in the teens with 60 mph wind gusts. Add rain and we have ice on all surfaces. Isn't this a beauty? #firstbloomoftheyear #christmas-cactus #zygocactus #pink 12.8.18

We're warm inside Cyndi been Christmas -ing @cyndi

Ooooooh!! Christmas-ing! How fun!🎄💘😍

Yeah I agree @ShelleySnyder I caught that to. Very cute Christmas-omg. I like it🤗🤗🎄⛄️

Gonna be a pretty colour 💕

Thank you flower girl! It does get very pretty indeed. I'll show you lots of it @kez001uk

@columbiariver I can’t wait to see more of it 😁 my thanksgiving one has no flowers left, just buds that have started dropping ☹️

I'm excited for this one this year. I've been feeding her, trying to get full bloom! 🌸💮🏵🌸💮🏵🌸💮🏵🌸💮🏵 @kez001uk

Getting ready to pop! 💕

Soon Rach! @rachelbrooks

Its blooming in sections, according to the pieces I tossed in from mil's broken plant. Doing better than I thought it would. #christmascactus

#houseplant #christmascactus so impressed with this one. It was a big broken chunk of a branch in summer. Has taken off like nobody's business. Right on time too

WOW!!💘😍

Brilliant Laura! 👏🏼 and what a great colour 💕

I think mine could use report g too @columbiariver @cyndi does it make a difference when I do it? Not when it's blooming of course

I know it @ShelleySnyder !

Cyndi if you can get to a garden center in a Fred Meyer (Kroger's) or what ever one stop shopping center is in your area in January/February, it's when they try to get rid of last year's summer stuff that they've had stored thru Christmas. Best time to get pots here anyways. I hope you can get some for all the growing babies! Lol!

It's such a beautiful shade of pink and you know how irridescent they are too Rachel. A treat! @rachelbrooks

It doesn't matter with these Leslie. I've done winter and summer and they don't skip a beat. I can't believe this was a chunk that broke off of my mother-in-laws plant Las summer. It was just lying on the cement floor of her sun porch. Lol! I broke off the old cork stuff and split it, put it in here. I did add a little bit of the flakey fertilizer in the soil. Made her very happy I think! @lesliecole49

How often do they bloom?? Mine just bloomed a few blooms but I was just wondering how long before the next blooms? That’s so cool that you got that from a piece I have alittle piece I can’t quite tell if it’s going to make it but it’s still not soft and I’ve had it a few weeks 😊💕

They bloom once a year Terri. Sometimes several branches will bloom and then later other branches will bloom. But once a year. These are easy plants. @terrimclaughlin

My MIL's Christmas cactus finally snapped a limb. The woody end is a little punky feeling. Where to start? I'm going to mix half and half succulent and regular soil. Hoping to do my best by it @pretty_paws_29

Oooh. Very good luck!!

@columbiariver You've got this!

Don't forget the Epsom salts. One to two tablespoons in a gallon of water. For stress.🤗

We're going to #transplant this giant #christmascactus. It's the old variety. Not found in stores anymore. It's root bound. When we water her it goes straight thru as if there's no soil in the pot at all. Just roots. I don't know if we should have several empty pots ready or just one huge pot? Will it fall apart when we break the old pot away? Not sure about soil type either. Any #ideas or #advice please?

Hope you had a great Christmas 😀🎄🎅Judy

The #christmascactus-advice tag may help? I think one that size will definitely have pieces that break off during the #repotting process.

That is absolutely GINORMOUS😲! #humdinger for sure. I'd be scared to touch it. I'm sure you will have some breakage, but I'd try to keep it all together. It seems to be doing well and thriving.

@columbiariver - Wowzerz that thing is huge!! I would guess several pots, large to small... and I would also guess you will have LOTS of sections to start as new plants! Where did you aquire it? #huge

Thank you @plants Judy. And you as well! Happy new year 🎉

It's my mother-in-laws plant. If I leave it alone I'm afraid it may not make it much longer. Looks under stress. It's been in this pot for a looong time. It's going to be a project. Going to need a tarped area unless we wait for summer. I'll plan to have many pots. If anyone wants me to mail you a start (not potted of course), I would be happy to. @brightcolours @SikoMa @KariSamuel

Do you have a shady area of garden for it ? You could plop it down break open the pot and settle the whole plant if you have room. Put some nice nutrients in the soil, liquid feed. You could even stake it for support.🤔

Our colder climate doesn't work @deekay I'll bet it would do great outside in a warmer area.

Mmm. Yes that is right. A couple of my older ones went quite woody. So I popped them in the garden under the camellias. They definitely dont get any frosts though.

Do they bloom? I'd love a warmer climate sometimes @deekay

My young #christmascactus and its giant mother plant. #usgardentags The mother is beginning to bloom, but mine is not. Could it be an Easter Cactus? 😉 can of worms officially opened!

@columbiariver !! Hahaha.... are they REALLY a cactus at all?!? 🌵 Or a succulent?!? 🌱

🙊🙊🙊

@KariSamuel I know it. Sneaky plants 🌱

Buds on the large #christmascactus. Plant looks thirsty. It got a drink.

I bet it appreciated your TLC! 💧💧💧
#zygocactus #christmas-cactus
I have one of these and it’s never flowered
You've got to be kidding David. You're the master of all things succulent. I wonder why? My zygos are all having a weird 2021. This is the first time this one hasn't bloomed on schedule and the Thanksgiving zygo is sputtering out blossoms 3 at a time. IDK Doc? 🤔💚🧐 @docthrill
All my thanksgiving zygos are producing massive amount of buds and just beginning to open. This one I got from a cutting 3 years ago, could be why it hasn’t flowered. It’s the only one of mine that’s been a dud.
That could be. They have mind's of their own 😂 @docthrill
