Love these plants but they only seem to last a year or two here. They get smaller and smaller and then poof they're gone!

That's a shame. They would thrive like crazy if you were one zone higher 😁 Can you pot one up and take it to the barn for winter? Their color is so nice 🖤💚🖤 @gjones

Our barn wouldn't be any warmer than outside as its not heated and we have no animals in the barn.

Too bad it's late. Your winters are so long though and cold. I put this in a sheltered spot up close to the house. It's growing like mad 💚 @tinaaune

I want an upright plant. Am I right to assume I just cut bottom growth away? #blackelderberry #trim #shape 7.17.18 @carolgs @mariomartins

I have no idea about getting it to grow upright. Here we grow them as densely branched shrubs!

You are so good at letting things grow so beautifully and to their full potential and size. I've thought of putting this somewhere else, but the color has me wanting to keep it here. This light is bad, but it matches our trim paint perfectly and would be gorgeous growing tall here. @gjones

Hopefully someone can give you good advice on pruning into a tree form😊

I have this Laura, mine stays up right and it's whacked on all the time! I'm not sure how tall this would get without cutting but mine is about 8ft. Tall after cutting it down to about 2ft. I do know it wants to stay a bush, next to impossible to keep it cut to one trunk, but I sure love the blackness of it!💘😍

Yes you can cut the lower branches away and not prune the taller up right ones until its at desired height, with the bits you cut off do cuttings they root quite easily

I'm trying to train mine as a standard I will leave the bottom branches this year to get stronger but cut them off next year when the main trunk is thicker and stronger, I have nipped mine out at the top to keep it a smaller size as they grow so quick 😄

Thank you! I'll cut away. There is more bushiness going on that you can't see. It's like a nest at the ground @ShelleySnyder @carolgs @keely

Laura I realise black friday is the day after Thanksgiving can you tell me why it is called that.

3w

columbiariver

@errolly hi Beverly. I suppose it's called that so we black out our calendars and spend the day shopping for Christmas bargains. It's the official beginning of Christmas shopping. Or maybe it's called that for the black eye you'd get for being grabby while shopping for Christmas bargains. Christmas has been commercialized terribly here. I'm a little cynical. I prefer the quiet Christian traditions, but to each her own. There are really good deals tho.
