Yippee! It made it! It bloomed this year! I guess I gave it enough water and fertilizer because it is a real piggy. Of 5 stems, 1 has flowers. That is good with me y'all! Thank you 🥰 😊 💓 @hebelover @KOutdoors @gjones @treefrog44 @lovestogarden @juliesgarden @richard.spicer.7906 @mich
Yes this hibiscus is blooming beautifully, but half of the buds have yellowed and are falling off. Can you see them? I'm not going to do anything about it this year. Second year I've had it, second time for buds to fall off. 9.9.18
I've had no buds, beautiful leaves. Proper, heavy fertilizer. I use tomato fertilizer too Laura. Just got something different, an organic small manufacturer flower fertilizer. This is the 2nd yr too. Last yr was better. I blame the weather too tho.
Happy saturday all! I think I'll pull up a chair and have my coffee right here and just stare at her. The wait has been long. I'm still not absolute on the ID. #hibiscus #hardyhibiscus #pink #red #dinnerplate #kopperking 9/2/2017, have positive ID now
The beast is OK today. Even getting ready for her first bloom. I removed the tiny yellow buds and left the large ones. Cleaned her up with soap and water with a tiny bit of neem. I have no clue if it helped the plant, but it helped me. Lol!
Oh no, its midge. Going out to pick them off. Only the tiniest, newest buds affected so far. I'll get the systemic bug killer but I hate to use it. Ack! Thank you @cyndi #hibiscus-pest #hibiscus-advise #hibiscus-midge
Is that a new plant? Are hibiscus midges in your area or did they come with plant? Systemics don't work very well on and stay around to kill beneficials. Carefully removing buds and destroying larvae or if they have pupated a soil treatment @columbiariver
Very hard to time for adults, but sticky cards will catch. Would have to do reading on life cycle. Did you find any larvae in buds? It will take some work to control. Contact extension office or st. University for control measures for your area. H. Midges have been in fl. For a while and will most likley spread with plants being shipped. @columbiariver
I've been studying for two hours. I believe it's a rose mallow or swamp mallow, hardy hibiscus. I had some difficulty finding matching foliage until I saw the mallow Shelley. I can't wait to see it blooming. @ShelleySnyder it was a discount plant last winter
It ok @ofthought . I think you're in the right spot as many of us here seem to have health or memory challenges. I've found no judgement here for loss of memory. And mine is pretty bad! Lol! Have a fantastic Wednesday Melissa!
