#earthday to me means appreciating the things that mother nature provided before humans got their hands on them. This fir in our yard got my attention with the #sapstream. Read below for definition

This is quoted from a WordPress article " So how do sap streams work?  When a tree is under attack, it releases large amounts of sap that (if all goes well) plugs the insect holes, thus trapping and drowning the insect.  If infestations are too significant, sap streams are ineffective, and the tree will die."

I've noticed this sap stream for a few years and trust this mighty tree is holding it's own as nature intended. #earthday #firtreesap https://naturechronicles.wordpress.com/douglas-firs-and-sap-streams-natures-defense/

One of the fir trees we have. We get harsh east winds from Nov to April, some gusts reaching 80 - 90 MPH. (I know, we're crazy for living here). Our trees are largely one sided. The branches up this one are curling away from the power of the east winds. #usnative #internationalday
