Close up of the yuckiness. I've learned with this plant that it hates to be moved about. #succulents #RIP 12/22/16

What is this yuckiness?

The white stuff is powdery mildew. I've been treating it with neem and soap but it's not working.

My first casualty of my move. This one got the powdery mildew and it's not going away with treatment. 😭 #succulents #RIP 12/22/16

So sad. I know now what it had, so ignore my later question. It is lovely too. Did you try cinnamon? I just learned of this. Can you cut the ends and root them before they are effected?

Saw this treatment recipe ? To control powdery mildew on plants, mix together: 1 tablespoon of baking soda. ½ teaspoon of liquid soap. 1 gallon of water.

Muzz67

I guess you spray that mix on the plant 😊

@Muzz67 thanks, at first the white went away after spraying but a few days later it returned and covered the whole plant.

@lovestogarden I didn't use cinnamon this time. I think the moving and rainy weather was just too much for my pearls.

I let my pearls get sunken in like this before I even think about giving them water. In a few hours they will be nice a plump again. #succulents 8/29/16

@Doomsdoor I've noticed that these can be hard to find. People love them and snatch them up. Took me a while to get these in a small container for $3 and haven't seen them since!

@SikoMa @jennilm @nyusya13 This is my first string of pearls I've had for a year now. What is working for me is only watering when I see the pearls shrunken and keep it in bright indirect light. They do get some early morning direct sunlight.

I've been trying do get mine to grow faster but it's not working! I started off with just 3 10 inch strands that somebody gave me at the end of last summer because she didn't know how to take care of them. I cut a 6 inch section off the bottom of each strand and removed the top 4 pearls from the clippings

As I read that is where the roots propagate from. I planted it correctly as far as I know at least, and in all the time that's passed they really haven't grown very much at all:-( each has a few small pearls

At all like I expected. Sorry I keep hitting send instead of next line! do you have any tricks of the trade you can share with me? I would really appreciate it

Next time don't cut the cuttings smaller than what you received. Also I don't think you needed to remove any pearls. Just lay the strands on soil and leave it alone. Don't water until you see roots, and then I'd just mist with a spray bottle. I think you slowed down their growth when you cut and removed the pearls.

Wow I actually got the directions right from the growers website, unbelievable! It didn't seem to make any sense to me based on what I know about cacti propagation, however I've never heard of a String of Pearls so I thought they knew more than me! thank you for your input -these have been frustrating me to a point of near Obsession LOL!

Do you ever let them hang down the side of the pot? That's what I was going for , the pictures I had seen on the website I made it look like a beaded curtain almost surrounding the planter . Really visually stunning!
