Daffodil Princeps (Trumpet) in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Narcissus 'Princeps' syn, Narcissus 'Irish Princeps'

Daffodil 'Princeps' (Trumpet)

'Princeps' is one of the oldest cultivars and is still given the specific title Narcissus gayi which perhaps indicates that it was originally a form selected from the wild. It is early flowering with a clear yellow trumpet and cream petals.

Planting Outdoors

From Early Autumn TO Mid Autumn

Plant out bulbs in early autumn. They should have 3 or 4 inches of soil above the top of them.

Flowering Season

From Late Winter TO Early Spring

Almost all varieties flower in late winter or early spring. Each bulb produces one or more flower stems, each with one or more blooms.
